Duplex steels have their roots in the 1920s; in Sweden, the first cast was produced in 1930. Heat Resistance: Compared to austenitic steels, duplex stainless steel has a lower thermal expansion and a higher heat conductivity. Due to their superior ductility at low temperatures compared to ferritic grades of steel, duplex grades can be used with ease down to at least -50°C.
Cost: Compared to their austenitic counterparts, duplex stainless steels have lower nickel and molybdenum contents.
